New world records at long distances
In the men's open compound category Korea's LEE Ouk Soo broke the previous world record of 338 points at 90 metres and set it at 343.
On the women's side LEE Hwa Sook—also from Korea—broke a world record in women recurve standing. At 60m she set it at 323. The old record was 318.
Although there are very few archers in the Visually Impaired division, those that were there shot brilliantly. Masismiliano PIOMBO of Italy smashed the men’s world records for both the 60cm face (raising it from 185 to 269) and the 80 cm face (262 to 294). Janice WALSH (USA) raised the women’s records for the division from 143 to 187 (60 cm face) and 241 to 254 (80 cm face).
Zandra REPPE (SWE) and Danielle BROWN (GBR) both broke the 60 metre record in the Open Compound women class, REPPE beating it by 2 points and BROWN by 9 points.
Jeff FABRY (USA) broke the world records for 70 metres and 60 metres (by 11 points and 1 point).
